Fire in the House 🔥

A satsang from Yogiraj Prakash Shankar Vyas on urgency, focus, and stilling the mind, and why the answer is simpler than the distractions we chase.

Dear Reader,

On Useless Distractions

If it were not for all the words and the mental chatter, you would be very relaxed.

Think about how peaceful you feel after deep sleep, when you wake up in the morning!

Any loud noise is shocking at that time.

But your brain is constantly recording memories and storing images and patterns.

Past memories are food for your mind, and you start thinking…

The thoughts circle around every minute of the day until they become too much and your life becomes messy.

Fire in the House

What would you do if you woke suddenly one night and there was a fire in your house?

You would do anything to save your life.

You would break down the door, smash the window, or climb out onto the roof.

And sometimes disciples email me about the fire right in front of them.

They can feel the heat and see the danger.

Yet although the fire is raging in one corner of their room, they act as if there is no urgency.

Instead, they are filled with doubt and confusion.

They research so many different meditation methods on YouTube.

They ask me, ‘Will this mantra or practice be better, quicker or easier (than Kriya Yoga)?’

The answer is so simple.

They want peace and my blessings, yet they do not wish to see the games the mind plays.

Meanwhile, the fire is burning them.

On Lack of Focus During Practice

Fire is energy.

Imagine that you switch on your gas stove, to cook soup.

But instead of putting the pan on the hob, you hold the pan a metre above the flame.

Firstly, you are wasting your energy (and we are not talking about physical energy).

Secondly, your food will not cook, even if you keep holding it there.

Thirdly, you are wasting your time.

I am always telling you, ‘Where attention goes, energy flows.’

When are you going to put your pan on the stove and cook your food so you can satisfy your hunger?

Ask yourself: Am I misusing time and energy in my daily life?

Become Conscious

Be very honest with yourself.

Be very conscious about the direction you are walking in.

Are you planning for the future instead of taking action right now to save yourself from the fire?

Close your eyes, and do a simple practice of observation.

Spend at least five minutes during the day without thinking.

Make time to go into empty space.

You can be a very happy and peaceful person.

And remember, the blessing you seek is not coming from anywhere else, or anyone else.

You bless yourself.

These words are based on a satsang or talk given by Yogiraj Prakash Shankar Vyas, who teaches original Kriya Yoga in the direct lineage of Lahiri Mahasaya as a householder. His Guruji, Satya Charan Lahiri, was the grandson of Lahiri Mahasaya.

With love and smiles,

Heidi 🙏
