Your Natural State

Yogiraj Prakash Shankar Vyas on why the mind wastes so much time in the past and future, and what it means to truly rest in the present.

Dear Reader,

Don’t Waste Your Time

There is no rest at all—since childhood, we are only thinking.

It is a part of our nature; it is a part of our habit.

The mind goes in two directions: to the past and to the future.

The past is gone and the future has not yet happened; yet we have big expectations for the future and the mind gives us trouble, because our plans often fail to come to pass.

It is a waste of time to worry about the future.

Stress and anxiety are the result when our mind cannot digest the mental food we are giving it.

You go to see the doctor to get medicine, to get relief from the rubbish you are feeding it.

It’s a mental game that we play.

Witness Your Thoughts

So when will we rest the brain?

When you witness your thoughts, you will see that mind is a processor of thoughts.

Most thoughts are related to your experiences, some are good; some are bad.

When I say witness your thoughts, one thought passes by, and for the moment you can feel a pause, and something else will come—good or bad—but if this pause is maintained, it grows bigger and deeper, and that is your meditative state.

Meditation starts from that pause.

And that pause is essential for all human beings.

Your Natural State

Everything has to come in the present.

Just wait and watch what will come.

The present is important because it is your natural state.

The present is always very fresh, and when you find stability there, you are very happy.

It is difficult to describe that thing; it is very empty.

There is such a sweetness; a beautiful fragrance that comes bursting directly from inside; there is no interference or disturbance.

When you are there, you will not be worried, or thinking about your problems.

You will forget your sadness.

There are such beautiful moments in the present, but you miss them when you go into a future dreamworld or past memories.

These words are based on a satsang or talk given by Yogiraj Prakash Shankar Vyas, who teaches original Kriya Yoga in the direct lineage of Lahiri Mahasaya as a householder. His Guruji, Satya Charan Lahiri, was the grandson of Lahiri Mahasaya.

With love and smiles,

Heidi 🙏
