Through the Door

Yogiraj Prakash Shankar Vyas offers a simple gazing practice to help Kriya Yoga practitioners go deeper, and asks: will you stay outside the door, or

Dear Reader,

We will do a secret practice today, where you can begin to understand samadhi.

Before you start, listen very carefully to what you are going to do:

For five minutes, you are going to sit peacefully, with eyes open.

Fix your gaze on some object in front of you.

You have to see the object as it is; without any movement of your mind or thoughts.

Tell me! Were you able to do this? Was there any movement in your mind?

If you were thinking about size, colour, or shape, or why it is there and what it is for— You were only experiencing with your mind.

We can’t stop our thinking—yet we want an explanation about the Absolute or God.

But it is quite impossible.

When you can keep your eyes open, without any movement of your thoughts—

It means you are not experiencing anything.

And there is a door.

You can choose—do you want to stay outside, or do you want to go inside?

This is all up to you.

The same principle is inside also.

When the eyes are open, we blink; but when we close eyes, there is still movement.

In Yoni Mudra, fix your eyes on the space without thinking; do observation there.

Then you will be inside the door.

If you are thinking, you are still outside.

Remember: movement of thoughts means time is present.

Our understanding is based on stored memories.

You are happy with your perception; you see everything with your physical eyes—

Notice how you see me in a form; this size; what I’m wearing…

But your perception can also be false.

All day and every day, we are thinking rubbish and wasting our energy.

Recorded memories are a burden for you; they make you dream.

Instead of resting, you dream that there is a tiger chasing you, ready to attack…

Then you wake up shaking in your bed—

There was no tiger at all!

Religious people in the temple, church and mosque talk about God or the Absolute.

They are experiencing only with their minds.

We want to know what is beyond the intellect, beyond the brain, beyond the mind.

But there is no need to borrow any knowledge

from anywhere else.

I say—‘Go into silence’; ‘Go into Zero’; and you begin to change these habits.

Forget whatever I have experienced; I want you to experience that thing.

Something only becomes your own when you experience for yourself.

So have your own wisdom! That is more important.

If you can change your habits, your nature, this is very useful for meditation.

Keep your consciousness in the frontal lobe.

You need to evolve your consciousness.

Do observation until there is no movement of your thoughts.

Live in the present, where time stops.

It is a requirement that time has to stop for meditation to begin.

So do this special practice often; gaze at an object without allowing thoughts to arise.

Only see it as it is.

You have to reach that stability; that constant state where there is no need for thinking.

If it is possible for you, then you are allowed to talk about God;

if you cannot, don’t.

Make this practice a habit—begin with five to ten minutes; then increase to twenty minutes.

These words are based on a satsang or talk given by Yogiraj Prakash Shankar Vyas, who teaches original Kriya Yoga in the direct lineage of Lahiri Mahasaya as a householder. His Guruji, Satya Charan Lahiri, was the grandson of Lahiri Mahasaya.

With love and smiles,

Heidi 🙏
